 Steps to Homeownership

Purchasing a home is one of the many ways to create wealth for you and your family. We will work with you to prepare you for the home buying process through counseling, lending partners, and other resources.

I understand by choosing this program I will be required to complete the EHOME or Frameworks Homebuyer Education Seminar at a charge BEFORE meeting with a Counselor.

 Financial Capability

Financial counseling and education is a powerful option if you are seeking to rebuild/establish credit, understand/manage debt, and create strong saving habits. Housing counselors are here to provide you with the financial tools needed to maintain financial and housing stability and guide you on the long-term goal of homeownership. Pre-purchase counseling is intended for those that are interested in purchasing a home in the near future. We have a variety of tools and resources to help you achieve your financial goals, such as our Networked Savings Program, rental counseling, credit/budget counseling, in-house match savings account program, and our Personal Money Management program. Housing counselors will work with you to help understand the home buying process from beginning to end and educate you on all the available resources to successfully achieve homeownership and/or any of the listed goals stated.

I am a first-time home-buyer who wants to save money for a down payment on a home purchase in Aurora.

I understand the Networked Savings Program is currently full and has a waitlist. Program and apartment availability will open in Fall 2022/Winter 2023.

Mortgage Default/Foreclosure Prevention Counseling and Education Services

Homeowners are not immune to unexpected economic shocks; we provide resources to you to keep your home, avoid possible foreclosure. Our mission is to help homeowners stabilize their mortgage payment through assessing homeowners’ current hardship and establishing an agreed-upon action plan in an attempt to cure the mortgage default or prevent foreclosure.

I understand that this program requires me to complete an online Foreclosure Intervention Education Course at NO Charge to me before meeting with a counselor.

 H.O.M.E. Post Purchase Services

HOME stands for - Homeowners Manage Everything. Now that you have purchased a home, our post-purchase/non-delinquency education and counseling can help you navigate life as a homeowner. Common issues like home maintenance and financial management are covered in this HUD-approved housing counseling and education service among other topics such as local grants and funding that can help with home repairs.
